Laura Santos Carreras was born in Madrid, Spain. She obtained a M.Sc. in Automatic and Electronic Engineering, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain). She finished recently her PhD in manufacturing systems and robotics at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland).
During her PhD, she worked on the development of multimodal haptic interfaces for robotic surgery with special attention to the ergonomics of the surgical task. Her main focus areas are in the fields of surgical robotics, rehabilitation devices, mechatronics, and haptics.
In July 2012, she joined the Rehabilitation Engineering Lab at the ETH of Zurich, Switzerland.
