Short biography

Jean-Claude Metzger has started in April 2010 his PhD study at the Rehabilitation Engineering Lab, which is part of the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems at the ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich).

Born 1985 in Zurich, Switzerland, he received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zurich in 2006 and 2010, respectively. His Msc is focused on Robotics, Systems and Control. Jean-Claude Metzger carried out his Master thesis on distributed coverage control on surfaces in 3D space at the DRL (Distributed Robotics Lab) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, USA.

During his Master studies he was leading a student team at the ASL (Autonomous System Lab) which is a lab at the ETH Zurich. This student team participated with a tele-operated Micro Aerial Vehicle in the flight contest at the European Micro Aerial Vehicle conference 2008 in Braunschweig, Germany. Additionally, he was working at an ETH Zurich Start-up (Dacuda Labs) in the fields of robotics and computer vision (real-time video-stream stitching).

His research interests lie in the field of artificial intelligence. He is interested in different areas of robotics: control, machine learning, computer vision and signal processing. He is looking forward to extend his knowledge during his PhD studies towards human-machine interface and robot assisted rehabilitation.
